Dear Mr. President, I hardly understand English, hence couldn’t comprehend your address to the nation on January 7, 2012. However, I followed its translated version in some local media, hence and despite my limited exposure in politics and statecraft I observe some interesting points to comment on. I hope you would bear with my “naivety” and wouldn’t wonder how I write you in English anyway, for it could be a spontaneous miracle.

Notwithstanding the merits or demerits of the capitalist-oriented economic system adopted by Nigeria, I wonder how it (or indeed any other mainstream economic policies) could address the country’s peculiar economic challenges.

As the wave of violence all over the country is increasingly getting out of control, I can’t help but visualize the inevitable fate befalling this nation unless the authorities rise up to the challenge. Incidentally, I had summoned up my sense of optimism to visual a better fate, however having had to be realistic in the process I couldn’t help but conclude that the end is definitely gloomy.

Why Tackling Almajirci is Tricky

A critical look into the successive federal and state governments’ attempts to address the issue of almajirci, and how the phenomenon has often defied all proposed and implemented measures anyway, would show an irony quite hard to unravel. It is obvious that, there are three main players involved in the whole equation i.e. government, parents and alarammomi i.e. the Qur’anic tutors under whose custody the children go through the process of learning and/or memorize the Qur’an.
